C Spire to host Pro-Am at Champions Tour event at Fallen Oak Golf Club in Saucier

Biloxi, Miss. (February 28, 2013) – With five World Golf Hall of Famers and 17 former PGA major championship winners, the 81-player field for the 2013 Mississippi Gulf Resort Classic professional golf tournament is shaping up to be one of the strongest ever.

The field, led by defending champion Fred Couples, includes six Masters Champions and all of the top 30 players on the PGA’s Champions Tour money list. The tournament, now in its fourth year with a total purse of $1.6 million and a $240,000 prize for first place, will be held March 21-24 at Fallen Oak in Biloxi.

C Spire Wireless is one of 16 consortium partners and title sponsor of the tournament’s Pro-Am event, which will be held on March 21 this year and feature an opportunity for selected individuals to play in a foursome with one of the professional golfers in the tournament.

Last year, the tournament generated nearly $10 million in direct economic impact on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, according to a study conducted by the University of Southern Mississippi’s College of Business. The three-day tournament is scheduled to air on the Golf Channel once again this year, exposing the Mississippi Gulf Coast and its attractions to a national audience of golf enthusiasts.
